Late December 1999 European storms

The late December 1999 European storms were two intense and rapidly developing mid-latitude low-pressure systems, named Lothar and Martin, which affected Western Europe between 26 and 28 December 1999. Classified as explosive extratropical cyclones, they caused widespread wind damage, resulting in 140 fatalities and an estimated US$19.2 billion in material losses.
